Geeks stars and stiletos
27-01-2010I think it might be time to admit that I am actually addicted to the Doctor. Dr Who that is. The other half got quite a number of Dr Who box sets for Christmas – it’s the unhidden and very open geek in him. Me, I wasn’t so fussed.
Then along came a dull Saturday morning over breakfast and I got tricked into watching them, low and behold, two box set seasons on and I am hooked! This may be due to the unrequited love stories that always seem to exist between The Dr and his companion, it may be due to the fact that I have a not-so-secret crush on the delectable David Tennant, it may even be due to the fact that somewhere submerged in the very depths of my soul there my may a geek lurking, waiting, hoping, living for that moment that it gets to rise to the surface for all to see. It might even be a combination of all three, but whatever it is I am caught, hook, line and sinker. And so I sit here waiting for tonight’s installment from the riders of the Tardis as I blog.
On another note I am actually enjoying my evening of relaxation thanks to the weekend of work and the première last night.
Whats that you say?
Premiere??
I wish it was as exciting as it sounds. Dont get me wrong, it’s not exactly dull, more straight forward and similar to the numerous other premieres that have graced the red carpets of Dublin – because there really are so many you know.
They are actually really hard work, ensuring everyone gets in and gets their slot with the TV then radio then press and then the photographers. Last night was interesting as it was the premier of Lovely Bones – which stars the rather mildly talented Saoirse Ronan. At 15 years of age the young starlet has taken the film world by storm and it’s not too hard to see why, not only is she a fantastic actress, she is sweet, polite and very dedicated to her home country which is always a nice thing to see. Just because you are a high flyer doesn’t mean you should ever forget your roots.
The one thing I instantly noticed about Saoirse was her footwear. As a shoe fanatic I was in awe. The most gorgeous pair of stilettos I have ever seen, apparently they were from the new Nino Devito collection, which doesn’t mean a lot to me – if they came from Primark they would still have caught my eye. Delicious sky scrapers. Which means of course I could never ever wear them – two steps forward in heels that high and it would mean I would literally be kissing the ground I walked on, thanks to my rather clumsy nature. Still a girl can dream.
Now I just have to make sure that the red carpet working PR gal in me never meets the Dr Who loving geek and all will be well. Something tells me they might not get along too well.
