Getting my rugby on
07-02-2010I may have mentioned this already or I may have not, I can’t quite remember, but yesterday was our day out at the first match of the 6 nations, I got the other half tickets for Christmas. Ireland v Italy in Croke Park. It was great, to say the least.
The last rugby match I was at was four years ago, and it was actually Ireland against Italy. Yesterday was in a completely different league. For starters it was at least double the crowd this time round not to mention the buzz that was still fresh from last seasons historic grand slam.
Croker was packed to the rafters, and you would have been hard pushed to see an empty seat anywhere in the grounds. Anticipation hung heavy in the air and the chanting was hypnotic, Ireland’s call was deafening and even the Italian supporters were in high spirits.
Our seats were in the lower tier of the Cusack stand with every angle of the pitch in perfect sight and while the second half of the match was a bit poor in terms of playing standard without a doubt I enjoyed every minute of the match. I especially had a good giggle when during Ireland’s Call I looked up at the big screen to see my little cousin with his face painted with the team colours, gazing in awe at everything going on around me.
They always manage to get a shot of a cute kid on-screen at some point during the match, I am just pleased as punch that it was him. His very first rugby game, it won’t be something he forgets.
Now I just have to start saving to make sure I can fund my attendance at future matches as after yesterday it will be tough to go back to watching the game on TV!
