Blast from the past
23-02-2010It is disappointing to say the least, that I can actually blog on this topic this morning.
Last night some idiotic pricks who still live in the past, tore open old wounds and reignited the dying embers of old wars by planting a car bomb outside the courthouse near home. For those that know me or even those that have been reading or watching the news, you will know exactly whereabouts in Northern Ireland I am referring to.
They gave as little warning as possible and the damn thing went off as police hurried to evacuate the area. It is a miracle no one was killed. And I actually thought we might be moving past all this. Moving forward. Progressing as a community. Apparently not.
Those of you who perhaps are not from Northern Ireland might not fully grasp the damage that one car bomb can do, and I am not talking about damage in terms of buildings. I am talking about damage to progression, damage to relationships in a community, damaging to the flickers of trust that have been forming. One act can encourage a retaliation which can snowball into a ‘tit for tat’ attitude.
I can clearly remember how it used to be when that mentality was thriving, and even then it wasn’t as bad as my parents had to endure.
There were constant evacuations from churches, shopping centres and even schools due to ’suspicious devices’. I remember once in school in the middle of exams being taken to the furthest corner of the building as a bomb had been planted outside the front gates of the school. Huddling in home economics room and being told to stay as far away from the windows as possible should it go off. It was ridiculous, attacking a school. I remember families being torn apart by shootings, many of which tended to be mistaken identity or because they happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I know I cannot speak for everyone from home but I am sure I am of the same opinion as many, from every background and every religion, lets stop this insanity now, before we go so far back into the past that there is no way we will be able to find a way out.

You’re not the only one who feels that way, unfortunately there are some idiots out there who want to derail the peace process. Luckily this time there was no loss of life as there has been on both sides in previous years.
Kx
