Growing older but staying young at heart

22-03-2010
I have noticed recently that a lot of my social circle (myself included) are starting to do grown up things.

Things like talking about buying a house. Things like getting engaged. Things like getting married. Things like no longer going out to paint the town red until the wee hours on a Tuesday night. Things like getting full time proper jobs. Things like having more wine on a night out and less sambucca. You know, 'real world' type stuff.

A friend of mine was chatting about going to see show houses yesterday and we actually had a proper conversation about her getting her own place and how it was a good time to buy.

Another friend of mine has moved home while she gets the rest of her deposit together.

Two friends are getting married in October and another two celebrated 18 months of wedded bliss yesterday.

Another is off for a job interview in England today.

All very serious type stuff.

But the one thing that has struck me as odd? Well perhaps not odd, more just plain old fantastic. While we all move on with our lives and start getting older we don't take ourselves too seriously.

This very same group of people I am talking about are all still very much young at heart. One organised an alternative St Patrick's Day and ended up climbing on a local monument for an entertaining picture. In broad daylight. Another has an addiction to themed parties that she is already planning her costume for next year's halloween festivities - the more outlandish the better in her eyes. Another got so excited about the release of New Moon on DVD this week, she got up ridiculously early to get a copy BEFORE work and decided to broadcast this on Facebook.

And what about me? A full time job? Check. An apartment with the other half? Check? Bi weekly grocery shopping? Check. All very grown up indeed.

But still having the ability to laugh at myself, not to mention the craftiness to take over the other half’s blog / facebook / twitter when he has left it logged in and write things that will only earn me a serious tickling when he finds out as well as the sense to know that Saturday nights spent dancing the night away mean well earned hangover Sundays. All of this can only mean I am still very much young at heart. I don't think I will ever properly grow up.

Peter Pan aint got shit on me!
