Holi holi days. Almost
09-04-2010I head to Berlin in two weeks for a long weekend break thanks to a really REALLY nice Christmas present from the other half. You see Berlin has always been the number one on my list of cities I want to visit. It might sounds like a pretty mundane choice but for years I have always wanted to check it out.
You see I am a bit of a history fan (some might call me a geek) it was by far my favourite subject in school and I carried my fondness of the subject outside of the classroom, reading history books, autobiographies and watching history shows. Nothing too insane, I don't disappear for days into a history text book or anything like that.
I was always particularly fascinated by German History and anything on the JFK conspiracy (but I think everyone to some extent has an interest in that). Germany during WW2 was for me, enthralling. Some parts are very hard to comprehend, in the sense of it is hard to understand how something so immense happened on such a scale, for such a long period of time. So understandably Berlin the city was always going to hold a bit of a draw for me, a city steeped in all that history.
I never wanted to go with someone that wouldn't want to spend hours walking round monuments and museums with me, going to Berlin for a mad weekend was never an option, a girlie weekend wouldn't have suited either, and I would have bored my family to tears if I took them.
Enter, the other half. Interested like me in German history, can speak a bit of German (who on earth chooses to study German instead of French, Spanish or Italian?!) and obviously has a knack for really great presents. So this day two weeks we will hit the city I have been waiting for.
If anyone knows of any great spots, has any good tips or advice let me know. The aim is to get as much out of the four days as possible and I can't wait!
