Shortie Injuries

18-05-2010
I got new heated rollers a few weeks back. I have always wanted film star type hair, healthy bouncy hair, you know, anything bar the heap of straw I have dangling from my scalp at the minute. On some advice from a friend I got the Nicky Clarke travel heated rollers and I have to say they are really good. Last night I got a proper chance to try them out (the disastrous first time doesn't count) and even though I have slept a good 8 hours it still looks nice. Bouncy and healthy.

As for my poor fingers and thumbs I can't say the same. It turns out I am not the most non clumsy of people, so 6 heated rollers amount to 3 sore burns on my fingers and one very sore burn on my thumb. Still you know what they say, practise makes perfect. Or at least a few more tries on these things and eventually my fingers will become desensitised to the heat. Either way I win.

I also have a killer sore throat today, stupid tonsillitis has flared up again - I had a bout of it in Berlin as well. I really should book some time with the doctor and get them taken out. Or maybe not, I am allergic to pain, in case you didn’t gather this from the finger/thumb burn story. Plus, I am the worst patient in the world ever. I will admit this; I am such a moaner when I get sick, so the reality is I really am sparing other people having to endure untold levels of moaning if I got an operation that meant I couldn't eat for a few days. I am all about the giving really.

One last thing before I go to delve back into my piles of work. I came across this article yesterday and I thought it was a really moving piece, not only was it beautifully written but it highlights an extremely important issue. One that is often hidden behind a perfect made up mask, a closed door and an expert bubbly persona. If you have a few minutes today, why not take some time out to read it, and then remember to tell those you care about, just how much they mean to you and try not to underestimate just how far a few kind words can go to making a difference.
