Sunny Summer Days
23-05-2010What a weekend! Ireland has been hit with its summer and we got a whole two days of it this time. A heat wave rolled across the country on Friday night and come Saturday morning every male under the age of 65 was topless, every female had dusted off her beach clothes and sandals, parks were full, beaches over flowing and the scent of BBQ's filled the air.
At least this time we managed to get a weekend of decent weather, time off from earning our keep to take stock and enjoy. Ireland really is a glorious country to be in when the weather is great, for one thing, the clear skies and sunkissed rays allow us to enjoy the scenery that we have here on our own back door. Spain might have the sun, but it lacks the Wicklow mountains, or the dolphins in Kerry bay, not to mention the countryside of Donegal, the list is endless.
I for one, love the sun, the other half, not so much, being a bit of a red head (read ginger) they don’t mix so well. I take the sun quite well, he makes lobsters envious. Still that didn’t stop us enjoying a lazy early Saturday afternoon in the park with nothing but some books, ice lollies and sun cream for company. Pure bliss, we even dosed off. Nothing is quite as relaxing as lying on the grass, in the sun with the smell of summer in the air. My face did, as it always does after seeing sun for more than 5 seconds, explode in freckles. The other half reckons it's cute, myself not so much, it makes me look even younger, if that’s possible.
As is to be expected when the weekend is good, it goes much to fast, and so I sit here with my freckled face, my (very) slightly glowing tan, a stomach full from white chocolate magnums and I wonder how two whole days can go so fast. Ireland really should get bonus holidays when the sun makes an appearance. Such a rare occasion should be celebrated. Ah we can only hope.
