Stresses and Strains
25-06-2010I know I have said this many times in this little corner of cyberspace, I love my job. And that's actually the truth. I love the hustle and bustle, I love the deadlines, the last minute pressures, seeing a campaign through from start to finish, even the boring stuff like writing a press release or trying to make a DIY store sound somehow interesting and even sexy.
The other half perhaps is not quite as fond of my job. He see's the not so nice end of things. Cancelled plans at the last minute, weekends working at events, evenings working on various campaigns, the fact that I am never ever 100% switched off, the fact that I am contactable 24/7, the fact that most clients have my personal mobile number and fail to understand the concept of 9-5 working hours, he has to put up with seeing my checking my emails every evening when I get in and usually a few times more before I got to bed, not to mention at weekends. Then there are particular moments that even I cringe at, the one that jumps to mind is the anniversary dinner that I was over an hour and a half late for because I got held up at a hotel the night before a huge charity event, the same dinner was then consistently interrupted by my phone ringing as the client, the retail outlet, a few journalists, a few more guests and even the manager of the hotel all had a few last minute questions about the table plan / the room layout / the script for the MC / the goody bags and much more.
It drives him mad mainly because he see's the effect all this has on me. But he knows how much I love it and he supports me 110%, what more could a girl want?!
This week however, even with all the support he gives I am cracking up! I have a HUGE event next week. Without giving too much away as god knows who reads this, it is a sporting event, four days long, with 4,000 competitors and an endless supply of spectators. Add on a music festival and you have my current living, breathing nightmare. It wouldn't be so bad if I could devote all my time to it for the next week, but client meetings next week mean I am out of the office for a day and a half, plus I have to be onsite the day before the event so that’s another day gone, leaving me crap all time. I would work this weekend but home beckons for various friends leaving shindigs and what not.
Roll on the next 9 days. Bring me next Sunday as quickly as you can and make mine a nice cold bottle of corona at about 9pm that evening.

Just to fix up your stats there my dear, I only support you 95% of the way. The other 5% wants to block your laptop from the Net at home so you can't check mail and have to relax after working

Jester, why can't you show such enthusiasm and dedication to your job?

HAHA! Jester just got burned. Maybe you should listen to Al, after all he is your superior

Interesting point you make there Al, I'll do just that when I get that bump up the ladder. So the 13th day of the 13th month we shall see massive increase in my dedication to the job
