PRSI Piss

So you may remember a few short posts ago I was blabbering on about my promotion and how it was all very exciting. Which it was. Don't get me wrong the change in title is nice, more than nice, much appreciated. But the little pay rise that came along with the promotion was much appreciated as well. I had made a pact with myself; I currently save a fair bit so the extra money in my wages would be treat money. I would put it aside and use it for holidays, maybe taking my parents out for dinner when I am home, getting a little something for the other half, hell getting a little something for myself even.

First on the list was the holiday in August. As we are both skint with bills, rent and trying to save, we are going to be relying on last minute deals. The extra money in my wage every month was going to go towards paying for the holiday or at least be my spending money.

All that has literally been pissed away down the drain thanks to the fantastic PRSI system down here. For your northern folks, the PRSI is similar to our National Insurance.... you know that little bit that comes out every month and entitles us to free dentist care and free health care, free prescriptions and the likes. Unless you are in the seriously wealthy band in which case you pay a supplement fee which is fair.

The PRSI down here has increased for me since I crossed a certain threshold in terms of annual wage - not even a huge threshold might I add. It has increased so much that after my pay increase I get to take home a whole bumper increase of 70 cents extra every month.

I could understand if this entitled me to some free health care or anything but no. What I get is in five years after paying this fee; I am entitled to one free check up and clean at the dentist once a year.

I am not a fan of cursing, never have been, so excuse my French when I say, you have got to be fucking shitting me?!

I hate the Irish Government.

I plan on using that extra 70 cents a month to save towards buying a half decent biro, so when the general election comes round I will be marking a huge mother fucker of a red X next to anyone who can do a better job that the current imbeciles in power.
