The pain that comes with Wisdom

05-07-2010
I am in a lot of pain today and it's not down to the gym this time. It's thanks to the pain in the neck / mouth that is wisdom teeth.

I had a fair bit of hassle with my wisdom teeth on my left hand side before Christmas. They would hurt like hell and my cheek would be swollen and I would look like I had got a thump in the mouth from Mike Tyson! So after many, many, many, trips to the dentist and I finally got the top and bottom teeth out. A few days of work, a LOT of complaining, several packets of nurophen and I seemed to be free from the pain that comes with earning your wisdom.

It seems I celebrated too soon. For even though I asked my dentist to take out my other two wisdom teeth to prevent the same thing, code of practise means they have to leave them in unless they are causing problems. Mine were still coming through on the other side and she couldn't forsee any problems so they were left alone and I went about my daily drone, happy in the knowledge that I could get through the day without having to take pain killers or explain to people that the reason I had swollen cheeks was due to my teeth not a partner who perhaps thought it was ok to give me a slap now and again.

So all was well. Until now.

The problem has reared its ugly head with a vengeance. The wisdom teeth are not only giving me even more hassle but they are keeping me awake at night with the pain and I have a wee swollen neck and cheeks to boot. I hate to say it but when I see the dentist next Friday I will be doing the 'I told you so' song and dance with all the force I can muster!
