Fun times with old friends
03-08-2010As you can probably guess from the last post, I had much to much going on over the weekend to fit it all in one post, hence it will be broken down, for the safety of my fingers - I don't think they could survive quite so much blog typing in one sitting.
Last week was the birthday of an old friend, not in the sense that he is old in terms of the years he has totted up on this earth, more old in the sense that at my little young age, I have known him years. Years and years in fact. Unfortunately life, jobs, and everything that comes with that, has dictated we now live miles apart, a seven hour round trip across the border to be precise, so I wasn't exactly nearby to celebrate with him. Or commiserate if we are a bit more honest. Who wants to celebrate getting older after you hit the age of 21?!
So a plan was hatched between myself and two other friends, a car was borrowed, accommodation was arranged and I made the trip unbeknownst to the birthday boy himself. That is until he saw me outside the restaurant. Many hugs, kisses and birthday wishes later, we four sat and had an amazing meal, some tasty cocktails, a sinful chocolate cake and we laughed. We laughed and shared stories like only old friends can.
We even visited an old student haunt of ours, Katy Dalys. It's still a sweat box, and we felt ancient just sitting in it surrounded by students glugging their beer. But it was fun. Fun to reminisce. And definitely worth the 7 hour round trip - the food at Zen's alone would be worth the journey!
Happy birthday old boy, one year older and not a bit wiser
