Hey, this is the archive section. Pick a year, pick a month, have a nosey.

Downtime? I'd rather have the BUSY time thanks very much

08-03-2011
Since the beginning of 2010 we had a few people on maternity leave in the office and so quite a few projects were handed over to me.

From day 1 in January 2010 I was busy not just 'normal' busy, I mean chaotic style busy. I had a huge event for 50,000 people at the end of January and that took up quite a bit of time as you can imagine.

When that project finished I began working on a charity event which was to happen at the beginning of March. (For charity event read very low budget so a lot of crap has to be done yourself instead of outsourcing.) This included complete event management as well as PR.

Once that wrapped up I then launched straight into another huge PR project (a one off with a well known football star - those who know me can easily figure this one out). This project involved less hounding press for coverage and more media management. (For media management read 'answering a million queries a day, schedule organizing, and then reorganizing when the changes come back' and so on and so forth.)

May arrived with a bang with the launch of a sports event which was to take place in Ireland in July. This event was the European Championships for said sport with over 50,000 people taking part in a monumentally huge three day sporting event. There are no words to describe the insanity of work during those months. I was running on fumes alone by the time August arrived.

Following a little break in August I then launched straight back into the huge trade and consumer event started the whole thing, this time it was a year later and taking place in 2011.

All of this was on top of my normal work load as well as the odd film project and anything else that might have cropped up as well.

The problem is, now the trade consumer show has wrapped up for another year and people are back from maternity and since some of those projects were a one off thing I find myself at a bit of a loss.

I still have stuff to keep me busy but the deadlines are no longer as tight, the pressure has somewhat lifted.

The thing is though, I work better under pressure. I like tighter deadlines. This makes me work harder, more succinctly, my time is better allocated.

I thrive on being needed in work. I had an entire year to get used to the feeling of being non stop from the moment I came in until the moment I switched off my laptop in the evening. Now I have time to spend on my work I find myself questioning everything I do/write/organise. It is taking me longer to do something that would have taken me less than have the time a year ago.

I can't explain it and I consider myself to be a person of constant words but with this I am at a loss.
