Disturbed sleep and a growing dislike for hot water bottles

01-06-2011
Last night I was feeling a bit poorly and so when it was suggested I have an early night with a hot water bottle I practically jumped at the idea. Well, jumped in the metaphorical sense of the word given that I was feeling so crap.

Into my PJ's I got, tucked up into my amazingly cosy bed accompanied by a freshly made hot water bottle. I was exhausted as well as feeling a bit on the rotten side and so for once I fell asleep almost as soon as my head hit my soft downy pillows. Bliss. :D

No doubt I was snoozing peacefully, that is until around 2.30am when I was rudely awoken by a damp feeling. Now I can safely say neither myself or the other half are of the bed wetting variety so it became very apparent, very quickly that my lovely cosy hot water bottle had leaked everywhere and was now no more than a cold wet patch on my duvet, sheets and mattress.

I won't lie, I contemplated leaving it.

Then my sensible side kicked in, I nudged himself awake, we drowsily turned over the mattress and changed sheets.

Turns out there is a reason it is advised not to operate heavy machinery while feeling drowsy. In fact I think this warning should be extended to include not changing bed clothes while feeling drowsy. While tucking in our fitted sheet I stumbled and whacked by poor knee of the corner of our wooden bed frame with an almighty velocity. There was cussing. The tirade of fowl language that came from my mouth in the following seconds was both impressive and horrifying. :o

So I can safely say the only thing worse than being awoken by a leaking hot water bottle in the middle of the night is not being able to get back to sleep after flipping the mattress and changing the sheets because you are too awake after thumping your knee off the corner of the bed. I might be a bit on the cranky side today. :(
