A hug goes a long way

There are some things I am very bad at, one such thing is dealing with seeing someone I love very upset, with nothing I can do to help them. It kills me.

One of the most important people in my life is going through a tough time at the minute having lost someone important to them. Little over two years ago, I was in a very similar situation and this person was such a rock for me, I just wish I could do the same for him.

The words I say, though, they feel empty, like I know they cannot heal the hurt, they can only reiterate that I understand that hurt. There are no words or sentiments that can make the pain go away.

The little things I do to try make the day run a little bit smoother though, they feel pointless. They too cannot wipe away the anguish.

Standing by his side watching him go through this and knowing I cannot do the impossible, I cannot wave a magic wand and make it all go away, I wish there was something.

While no words of sympathy, no little chores, no sentiments will make it all disappear; sometimes a hug can go a long way.

Sometimes there are no words, when someone who is almost a part of you is hurting, there are just open arms and a loving embrace. A small step to let them know in no uncertain terms that you will be there with them through this tough time, to say the words of comfort, to do the little things and to stand by them and be whatever type of support they need.
