Hit the ground running

I am back at the gym. I felt I had no choice. Too many evenings snuggled up on the sofa eating and drinking and eating some more. Well, they had taken their toll.

The thing is I HATE exercise. I mean really hate it. The last time I was at the gym the only thing I enjoyed was actually seeing the improvements on my body - the stuff I had to do to actually get the improvements? Not so much.

So I put off going back to the gym. So much so that when I did finally manage to re-enrol a while back my body literally shrank in fear as I approached the doors.

But I was surprised. Pleasantly so. It seemed my body retained some of the 'exercise' knowledge and for whatever reason, it was not as hard going back as it was starting out.

I have learned lessons though this time. Stick to what you enjoy. For me, that's running. I am not a big fan of running outside as I look like a chicken that has just got stung on the backside by a bee. Indoors though, I can handle. When I first started out at the gym I managed (a very meek) 0.66km in 9 minutes during my assessment. This time it was a slightly more respectable 1.37km in the same time. Now I am running 3k in just over 20 minutes. It's not great and I won't be winning any races soon but for me, the girl who hates exercise this is one hell of an achievement. Actually being able to run for more than 20 minutes and enjoy it rather than running and counting the seconds until I can finish. It's monumental!

I say this all now, that's before I up my running, which I start tonight. Slightly faster pace and sticking with the incline I already run on. It won't be easy but as long as I am not cursing the very notion of running then I am doing ok. In my eyes anyway.
